Maths

EYFS - Today we are going to expand on yesterdays' work by splitting 5 objects into groups but today we are splitting them into 3 groups. You will need 5 objects, a pencil and a sheet of paper. Can you have a go at splitting your 5 objects into 3 different groups e.g. 2, 2 and 1 can you then have a go at writing down the addition equation. So the addition equation for 2, 2, and 1 would be 2 + 2 + 1 = 5.

How many different ways can you split the 5 objects 3 different ways and record the equation to go with it?

YR1 - Continuing with subtraction we are going to move onto subtraction problems today. You can use practical resources or the number line to help you.

If Tom has 17 cars and gives 5 to Sam, how many cars does Tom now have?

Holly has brought 14 apples from the shop, she looses 6 on the way home. How many does she now have?

Yasmin has 19 oranges and eats 3 at breaktime and 6 lunchtime. How many does she now have?
