Geography

As part of our Eco-Schools topic we will be learning about different types of environmentally friendly energy and which areas are most like to be used to produce energies such as wind power and solar power.  We will also take a look at nuclear energy before weighing up the pros and cons of wind power, solar power and nuclear power. The children will have a go at deciding the best way forward for our energy futures.  This dovetails with our science and DT units on electricity and provides the grounding that the pupils will need for the next part of this topic looks at how we could make our school more environmentally friendly.

Science - Physics

This unit ‘Electricity’ links to our Geography and DT and takes children through six lessons where they learn how to: associate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit; they learn how to compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches; and finally, they use recognised symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.
