Art is taught three times each year, one afternoon a week in six week blocks, every other half term. Links to other curriculum areas are made where relevant. A typical sequence of work will involve: researching an artist, their style and materials, teacher modelling, use of sketch books to explore and develop techniques with a range of materials, review and evaluate their own work, plan and produce their own creations, applying their new skills. Children’s work is often displayed within the classroom, around the school, on the school website and we have an Amazing Artists display board in school which is used to showcase artistic talent. Children are asked to produce six pieces of artwork at home and once completed, to hand it in. One artist is chosen each fortnight/month to be displayed. All children create special occasion pieces for their families, such as Christmas decorations, Christmas and Mother’s Day cards.
