Who's who?

Our EYFS team is made up of Mr Judge (Teacher) and Miss Stevenson (Early Years Educator).

Phonics Reading

We want to help every child develop a love of reading and build strong early literacy skills. Here’s how our reading system works throughout the year:

Autumn Term

Your child will bring home two books:

  • A wordless picture book – perfect for encouraging storytelling and imagination.
  • A sharing book – this can be enjoyed together as a bedtime story.

Please encourage your child to look at the pictures and create their own story. This helps develop language and comprehension skills.

Spring Term

Your child will begin to take home worded books matched to their individual reading ability. These books will support their growing phonics knowledge.

How You Can Help

  • Read with your child at least three times per week.
  • Practice the phonemes and tricky words listed in their reading diary.
  • Use the sharing book for family reading time – it’s all about enjoying stories together!
  • After reading, sign the reading diary to show your child has read their books.

More detailed guidance can be found inside your child’s reading diary.

Numbots

From Spring Term One, there will be a Numbots login where you can practice your number skills, which includes subitising (quick number recognition), addition, subtraction, number bonds within 10 and 20, doubling and halving.

Forest School

Forest school is on a Monday afternoon with Miss Stevenson and the children love this! They create wild art, clay sculptures, learn about their local environment and the wider world and have campfires with banana and chocolate as well as getting very messy while having lots of fun. We provide wellies for every child, but if you would like your child to bring in theirs please name them and pop them in a bag, and they can wear them.

PE

PE is on a Tuesday and Friday, so please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days and that everything is clearly labelled.

PE kit includes:

  • White/pale blue T-shirt with or without the school logo

  • Plain black/navy sweat shirt or school sweatshirt

  • Plain black/navy shorts

  • Plain black/navy jogging bottoms or plain black/navy exercise leggings. No logos/brands.

  • Flat trainers (these can be any colour)/black plimsolls

Homework

Creative homework booklets will be given out in September. They are lots of fun and consist of activities for you to do with your child, as well as reading, maths and tricky word practice. Homework books are marked on a Monday.

The more you complete, the more points you get, which turn into rewards! You can email any photos of homework to: homework@ironvillecodnorpark.derbyshire.sch.uk

Water Bottles

Please can your child brings in a water bottle containing water, and please make sure it is clearly labelled.

If you have any questions, please phone the school and ask to speak with Mr Judge or Miss Stevenson.
