Kestrels

Welcome to Kestrels Class!

Take a look around our class page to discover the exciting things we are learning throughout the year.

Reading

Each child has a home reading diary and a reading book matched to their reading ability. Please read with your child at least three times a week and help them practise the phonemes, tricky words or spellings recorded in their reading diary. Further information can be found inside the diary.

TT Rockstars

Your child will receive login details for Times Tables Rock Stars, where they can practise their number skills, multiplication and division facts.

Alternatively, you can support your child’s maths learning by using Hit the Button, which helps to develop addition and subtraction, number bonds, doubling and halving skills.

Year 4 Times Table Test

PE

PE is on a Tuesday and Friday, so please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days and that everything is clearly labelled.

PE kit includes:

  • White/pale blue T-shirt with or without the school logo

  • Plain black/navy sweat shirt or school sweatshirt

  • Plain black/navy shorts

  • Plain black/navy jogging bottoms or plain black/navy exercise leggings. No logos/brands.

  • Flat trainers (these can be any colour)/black plimsolls

Swimming

The first session of swimming for Year Four children will be Friday 18th September.

Homework

Children will receive a homework booklet each term containing fun activities to complete with you, as well as reading, maths and phonics/spelling practice.
Please encourage your child to complete the activities, have them signed off, and return the booklet to the class team every Monday.
Homework is marked on Mondays and children earn points for completed work, which can be exchanged for exciting rewards and prizes.
Photos of homework can be emailed to homework@ironvillecodnorpark.derbyshire.sch.uk.

Children will be given a weekly set of spellings that reinforce the phonemes they have been learning, alongside common exception words and year-group spellings. A spelling quiz takes place every Friday, and children who achieve 10/10 are awarded house points for their team.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child brings a clearly labelled water bottle containing water each day.

Useful Websites

Here are some websites that you can use to support Reading, English and Maths knowledge.
