In Geography this term, we’ll be exploring both our local area and wider map skills. We’ll then focus on Ironville in the UK, using atlases, maps, and iPads to learn about its key features. Through aerial images, we’ll compare physical and human geography and discuss how land is used. Finally, students will develop their map skills by creating their own maps, drawing routes to school, and sketching things they notice on their journey. This hands-on approach will help them understand geography in a practical and meaningful way.

In Art, we’ll be exploring patterns, printing, and design inspired by the work of William Morris. Children will begin by studying Morris’s style so they can create their own repeating patterns using natural objects, digital systems and paint. We will also learn how to mix secondary colours from primary colours. This hands-on approach will encourage creativity and an appreciation for design.

In Science, we will be learning all about everyday materials. Children will explore and identify different materials, describe their properties, and investigate what various objects are made of. They will compare natural and man-made materials and think about how these are used in our daily lives. Finally, we’ll carry out fun experiments to predict and test whether certain objects will sink or float. This topic will help children develop observation skills and understand the importance of materials in the world around them.
