Spring Two

This term, we will embark on exciting geographical adventures! We'll start by exploring our local village of Ironville, using maps to pinpoint its location within the UK. We'll delve into the village's key features, identifying landmarks like the church, school, shop, and reservoir. By analysing aerial images, we'll explore physical and human geography, understanding how the landscape has been shaped by both natural forces and human activity.

We'll then broaden our horizons to the vibrant city of London! We'll discover its location on a map, explore its vast size and significant population, and identify its surrounding areas. We'll learn about iconic landmarks like the Thames River and Buckingham Palace, and even investigate who calls London home, from the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street. Finally, we'll categorise the fascinating blend of human and physical features that make London such a unique and captivating city.

In Shining Start we are going to delve into the fascinating world of living things and their diverse habitats across the globe. We will explore the differences between living, dead, and non-living things, and learn how habitats provide the essential needs for various plants and animals. We will identify and name a variety of plant and animal species in different habitats, including microhabitats, and understand how these organisms interact within food chains. By investigating the interdependence of living things within ecosystems, we will develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the importance of preserving biodiversity.

This half term, our budding young designers will embark on a creative journey exploring the world of picture frames! They will delve into the diverse world of picture frames, examining their purpose, materials, and design. Through hands-on activities, children will learn various joining techniques, experiment with strengthening structures, and develop their own unique picture frame designs.
