Shining Start
A huge welcome to Shining Start for our new starters and a huge welcome back to those who was with us last year! We cannot wait to get started with all the fantastic learning opportunities and activities that we have planned.
Our EYFS Ethos
At Ironville and Codnor Park Primary school we believe that every child should be given the opportunity and support to develop and grow with confidence and kindness. Our team shows passion, dedication and love to all our EYFS children to help to achieve all their ambitions and reach for the stars!
Key Stage One
The children in Keystage one follow their small steps that are both individualised to them and challenging. Providing them with a broad and rich approach, where appropriate the children will follow the Keystage one curriculum.
Who's Who?
Our Team is made up of Mrs McNeil (Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant), Mrs Mansfield (TA), Mr Judge (EYFS Coordinator and Shining Start Lead) and Mrs Bourne (SENDCo).
Curriculum
Our curriculum is both ambitious and stimulating which provides our children with rich experiences that mirror our children's previous experiences alongside creating new and enriching ones. Our curriculum is broad and we take a whole child centred approach. It is our belief that every child should have the opportunity to grow and develop in their own way and in their own time.
Reading
In Shining Start we love to read! Story time is one of our favourite times of the day, where we share high quality stories that are rich in new vocabulary and phrases. We exclusively follow the Phonics Bug Scheme with reading books being matched to the children's current phonics set. These books tell fantastic stories with lots to talk about and discuss. We also integrate nursery rhymes, songs and dancing throughout the day. Your child will be given a reading diary, matched phonics book (changed weekly) and a sharing book to take home, along with login details for an online Phonics Bug profile (this can be found inside your child's reading diary). The Phonics Bug profile allows children to access other books in their set online if they would like to do extra reading at home alongside the phonics games.
Forest Schools
Forest school will take place on a Monday afternoon with Mrs Castle. During forest school the children create wild art, clay sculptures as well as learning about their local environment and the wider world in which we live in. We do provide wellies for every child, however, if your child would like to wear their own, then please pop them in a bag with their name on.
Homework
Creative homework booklets will be given out to each child. They consist of lots of fun activities for you to do with your child as well as reading, maths and tricky word practice. Homework books are marked each week and the more you complete the more points you earn, which then turn into rewards!
PE
Pe will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday so please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days.
Your child's PE kit should consist of:
- Plain blue or black shorts/jogging bottoms in winter ( no leggings)
- A plain white T-shirt
- Plimsolls or Trainers
Children should not wear jewellery for safety reasons.
Questions
Please don't hesitate to come and speak to us if you have any questions. We are available on the playground every morning and afternoon. If you feel a longer conversation is required please contact the school office.
